John Dalessio |
I (Bob Meli) spoke to John Dalessio at a VFW meeting at the Troast Club in Hackensack on February 9, 2011. At the time I spoke to John Dalessio he was 91 years old. He told me he attended Fairmount School up until the 9th grade, which would have been around 1935. He went to work from that point on until the outbreak of World War II. He joined the Air Force in 1942 and served till the end of the war in 1945. John Dalessio rose to the rank of Sergeant. He was a radio operator on board C47 planes, which were adapted from the DC-3 commercial airliner which appeared in 1936. The C47 was a Transport plane which delivered cargo and personal in a combat role. These planes also dropped paratroopers in the E.T.O. (European Theater of Operations). John Dalessio received 7 Battle Stars during his service. Let us never forget the Air men’s sacrifice. Written By: |
